We are the caretakers of Nova Scotia’s watersheds
Who are we?
We are a leader in watershed stewardship and innovative aquatic habitat restoration.
We are a multi-generational collection of passionate anglers and concerned conservationists representing the interests of over 25 river associations and their members, and the regional council of the Atlantic Salmon Federation.

We rally anglers to be the champion of anadromous salmon and trout in Nova Scotia – protecting the fish, their native waters, the surrounding lands, our privileges as anglers, and the importance of our relationship with wild species in our home province.

Impact
We work to conserve wild Atlantic salmon and Brook Trout – protecting, restoring, and enhancing aquatic ecosystems in Nova Scotia.
We work with river groups and partners across Nova Scotia to rehabilitate watersheds, improve water quality, and support research to understand salmon and trout populations and the challenges they face.

Issues
Wild Atlantic Salmon and Brook Trout populations are threatened by habitat destruction, climate change, pollution, and barriers to migration.
The NSSA uses a science based approach to enable habitat restoration, environmental advocacy, and essential research to safeguard salmon, trout and the healthy ecosystems they require.
Fish
Native trout and salmon are cold-water species integral to our region’s ecosystems, culture, and economy.
These species rely on healthy aquatic habitats for spawning, feeding, and migration, making the NSSA’s efforts to improve water quality, restore stream connectivity, and protect ecosystems critical for maintaining Nova Scotia’s biodiversity.
